Sajhë de Servian
(1198 - date not known)
Sajhë is 11-years-old at the start of Labyrinth, living in Carcassonne with his great-grandmother, Esclarmonde de Servian. Esclarmonde is a Cathar believer from the small town of Servian, about 12 km from Béziers.
Sajhë is a clever, self-possessed boy. He has lived with his grandmother since the death of his parents and has an understanding of the Cathar faith and knowledge of predicting the future, magic and the Jewish Kabala. In Occitan, his name means 'wise one'.
When the Crusaders come from the north to besiege and destroy the domains of Raymond-Roger Trencavel, Viscount of Carcassonne, Béziers and Albi, his fate becomes bound up with that of Alaïs, younger daughter of Raymond-Roger's intendant – steward – Bertrand Pelletier.
Although he does not know it at the time, his fate is inextricably linked with that of the secret concealed at the heart of the Labyrinth.
