Voices...

I have nearly finished my complete typescript of Labyrinth. Checking for some early research, I found a file that contains a passage of text - the first time I heard the voice of one of my main characters and wrote it down, as if by dictation.

The words look melodramatic to me now, but they ring true. This character is still in Labyrinth. Here are his words:

Black and white. Crows swoop up from the low, snow-covered ground, like ash from a dying fire.

What we leave behind in life is memory, the imprint of who we were and what we did.

Remembering the light, the colours of the banners and the sun. Leaving behind the colours, the kaleidoscope of light and smell and hope.

I have seen many new moons, in my mind, all of spun silver. Swish and twitch, the slap of water. Colours, the light falling. The crack and twist of words in the wrong mouth.

When all else is gone, love remains. For a person, for an ideal. This is a story of mystery and betrayal.

I have been a different person for different times, sometimes happy, sometimes full of fear and doubt, but always carrying it with me – the secret.

The Labyrinth is changing but the path remains the same.
